Smashbox Photo Finish Primer- REVIEW

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Before we dive into how great Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is, and the fact I’m on my third tube, let’s talk about the Smashbox story. A history lesson for those that love cosmetics. Have you heard of Max Factor?  Max Factor was known in the early 1900’s as the makeup artist for Hollywood.  This prompted him to create a makeup line in the early 1900’s.  Let’s fast forward in the story to the 90’s.  Dean and Davis Factor, great grandsons of Max Factor, started the legendary Smashbox Studios.  The story behind their name is that the word Smashbox was slang for a camera. (which makes sense if you think of a Brownie camera from the 1900’s).  Also  in the 90’s they started Smashbox cosmetics. You can be assured their products are photo tested!!  The thought is, if a product is tough enough to work in a studio, it will translate to the real world.  Not something all brands do.  Then in 2000 came the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.  That’s right!  It’s been around for 15 years!  It was created to help prevent the need for touch-ups during the photo shoots.  It just makes foundation look better.

Smashbox has 12+ primers.  Addressing everything from redness to enlarged pores and so much more.  Primers for face and primers for eyes.  Even now a spray-on primer water.  How to apply a face primer: place a small amount of primer on the face after moisturizer and before foundation.  Primers address many different concerns. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer ($36) was the first product made by Smashbox.  It is a blend of vitamin A & E, grape seed extract and green tea.  It can be worn alone or under foundation.  It’s an clear, oil-free gel that reduces the appearance of lines, wrinkles and pores. It gives a velvety finish and makes your foundation last longer.

  1. This is one of the few primers that I adore. I have oily skin and large pores so this is great for me. I also love the becca ever matte pore perfecting primer. long name and very pricey but AMAZING!

    1. This is a silicone based primer. That’s what provides that “slip”. Perhaps that or something else in this primer is bothering your skin. Here are the ingredients:
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone, Trisiloxane, Silica, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sunflower Seed Extract, Propylene Glycol, Water, Grape Seed Extract, Cola Acuminata Extract, Camellia Oleifera Extract
