Clarins UV PLUS Anti-Pollution Sunscreen Multi-Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 50

Here’s one of my new sunscreens.  Clarins UV PLUS Anti-Pollution Sunscreen Multi-Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 50.

It protects from  UVA/UVB rays, pollution, and free radicals while improving skin’s texture and tone.  This is a very light weight lotion.  It is very close to a liquid versus a lotion, so great under makeup or to be worn alone. This sunscreen is both a physical sunscreen because it has Titanium Dioxide 10.9% and it’s a chemical sunscreen because it has Homosalate 4%, Octocrylene 4%, and Oxybenzone 1.5%.I like a sunscreen personally to have both. A lot  of people say they can’t use suncreen.  That is a very broad statement.  Most people can wear a suncreen but  might need to figure out what part of the sunscreen isn’t working for their skin.  Chemical filters tend to be more irritating.  MORE ABOUT PHYSICAL VS CHEMICAL SUNSCREENS SOON.  Additionally, it’s important that if you find a product that caused irritation or acne that you start to narrow down what ingredient is the issue.  I’m listing the ingredients, then I will review a few potential triggers based on COSDNA.

Here are the ingredients:

Exclusive Organic Alpine Sanicle Extract: Helps strengthen skin’s resistance to free radicals.
-Cantaloupe Melon Extract: Helps protect skin cells from oxidative stress caused by UVA/UVB rays and pollution.
-Organic Blackcurrant extract helps prevent the appearance of redness and tightness caused by UVA/UVB rays and pollution.
-Exclusive Anti-Pollution Complex: Helps screen out environmental aggressors that compromise skin’s beauty.
-Titanium Dioxide 10.9%, Homosalate 4%, Octocrylene 4%, and Oxybenzone 1.5%

Water, Dimethicone, Alcohol, Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Nylon-12, Peg-12 Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Peg/Ppg-18/18 Dimethicone, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Disodium Edta, Sanicula Europaea Extract, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Maltodextrin Crosspolymer, Thermus Thermophillus Ferment, Lapsana Communis Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Ribes Nigrum(Black Currant) Bud Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Cucumismelo (Melon) Fruit Extract, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS:

Dimethicone- has a rating of 1 for Acne(and is high on the list).  If you have issues with this ingredient then this won’t be a good product  for you.

Stearic Acid- has a rating of 2 for Acne(is still pretty high on the list).  If this is a trigger for you, I wouldn’t use this product.

Butylene Glycol- has a rating of 1 for Acne

AND THE INGREDIENT I LIKE THE LEAST IN THIS IS…

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- has a rating of 5 for Acne and 2 for irritation.  This ingredient is being used as an emulsifier.  It is last on the list so a very small percent of the product.  I’m still using the product because of how low it is ranked.

Overall, I do like the sunscreen and will continue to use it.  I really like the texture and that it is both a chemical and physical sunscreen.
